Amazon UK DRM Free Store Open

I mentioned back in September that amazon UK were planning on opening their DRM free mp3 store during December - well they now have!

Their new mp3 department opened yesterday and presumably to attract visitors they’re offering some good opening bargains with new chart albums from the likes of Take That, Girls Aloud, Kings of Leon and many more from just £3.00. I’m not sure how long these offers will last for though.

When Will Amazon UK Offer DRM Free?

In the States people have been able to buy and download DRM free music from Amazons mp3 store for around about a year now. But here in the UK we’re still waiting. I have previously read reports in the newspaper that amazon would launch a UK service in the final quarter of the year (so that’s tomorrow then!). A pre-christmas offering would seem to make sense.

I’ll let you know when the service is made available.

Google Phone Offers DRM Free Music

The recently unvieled G1 mobile phone (available from T-Mobile) - already referred to as the Google phone - is the first model to operate on the Google Android platform. One of many features of the G1 is it’s ability to offer one-click access to DRM Free music downloads from amazon.com (the UK will have to wait a while).

The G1 comes with 2GB of memory, offering enough storage capacity to hold about 500 songs. You’ll be able to upgrade the phone memory to 8GB. I’ll post more info about the G1 in due course.
